The Soump tree or Desert Date Tree grows in very harsh hostiles environments such as the desert and Sahelian dry soils. Usually, it will be the only living plant in the areas we find it. (Refer to pictures) Which makes it an amazing force of nature that has developed its own survival mechanism and exceptional bio-chemicals to grow in such difficult conditions.
When we see them in Senegal it represents a Symbol of resistance and hope because it also gives a fruit that can be used to feed the cattle but it also heals traditionally many diseases.
It is said that in the time of ancient Egypt only royalty had access to it. The Oil is an excellent protector for skin and hair in dry in harsh climate. It also provides amazing nourishment for skin and hair.
